Amanda Brugel

(February 27 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a sleepy community on that part of the island of Montreal known as"the West Island. It is the West Island, to those not familiar with it, is a vast area that extends from Lachine to the west. Amanda Brugel grew up on the island and is often known as the place where she was born. However, she only was there for a brief duration. Brugel grew on Courtice close to Oshawa within Ontario. Early ambitions were to become a dancer. Then, a growth increase caused her to surpass her dance partners she had. An article in the Toronto Star article revealed she's 6 feet 1 inch tall and has heels. After I became too big for my male friends, I quit. A lot of former dancers go on to act. In Brugel's case it was the guidance from her drama teacher in high school who pushed her to take the step she wanted. Teacher who recommended she try to find a role in school's annual play. Following a trial the role, she was chosen as the lead actress for Anne of Green Gables. When she was awarded the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she enrolled in York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 2000. Over the past 20 years that followed, Brugel has landed roles on over 60 shows on both small and large screens drawing the most attention when she landed the role of Rita in the award-winning television series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel is the only Canadian actress in the season 1 which was viewed only on occasion.
